Macron Links Gaza Conflict Resolution to Trump's Nobel Aspirations

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that if former U.S. President Donald Trump truly desires to win the Nobel Peace Prize, he must work towards ending the conflict in Gaza. Macron, during an interview with French broadcaster BFM TV in New York, emphasized that Trump is uniquely positioned to exert pressure on Israel to halt the ongoing hostilities.

"The only person who can make a difference is the President of the United States," Macron said. He further explained, "He is able to do more than we are because we do not provide weapons and equipment to the Gaza conflict, while the United States does."

Macron's comments followed a speech by Trump at the United Nations General Assembly, where he rejected proposals from Western allies to support the establishment of a Palestinian state, deeming it a reward for Hamas. However, Trump also stated, "We must immediately stop the conflict in Gaza, and we must achieve peace through negotiations immediately."

International Dissatisfaction over Gaza Conflict Escalates

The UN General Assembly witnessed a surge in international dissatisfaction over the Gaza conflict, as U.S. allies, including the UK, France, Canada, and Australia, recognized the state of Palestine, defying Trump's warning that such a move equates to "giving a gift to Hamas." This marked a significant diplomatic shift.

Israel's most right-wing government in history has declared it will not permit the establishment of a Palestinian state while continuing its operations against Hamas. The United Arab Emirates has threatened to suspend its membership in the Abraham Accords—a foreign policy achievement long touted by Trump—if Israel proceeds with plans to annex the West Bank.

Trump and the Nobel Peace Prize: Ambition Hinges on Gaza

Commenting on Trump's speech, Macron remarked, "I see an engaged American President who reiterated this morning on the podium: 'I want peace, I have resolved seven conflicts,' and he wants to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize. This prize will only be possible if he stops this conflict."

Countries including Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his efforts in facilitating peace agreements or ceasefires. Trump himself has stated that he deserves the honor, which has been awarded to four previous U.S. presidents.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly stated, "President Trump has contributed more to peace than all of the UN representatives present combined. Only this President is capable of making such a significant contribution to global stability because he has effectively 'Made America Strong Again.'"
